The tradition of Square and Round Dancing, oftentimes described as “Fun and Friendship Set to Music” stems from 19 the century weekend hoedowns. Frontiersmen and frontierswomen, after working physically hard during the week, gathered with friends and family of all ages for an evening of recreation and relaxation. Doing so helped its participants to maintain good mental and physical health during those difficult times.
This year square dance was yet another successful way for people of all ages to enjoy good wholesome family entertainment that not only incorporates the benefits of physical exercise but affords its participants an opportunity to mingle with existing friends and to meet new ones. The evening was filled with dancing, games, live music, and of course a delicious dinner of fried turkeys, smoked ham, real mashed potatoes, and more.
We hope everyone enjoys the Hoedown, and we want to thank the many people who have helped to put this past Friday together! It takes all of you to create a Hoedown! Thank you!
