This Paint Out is an exciting phenomenon known as plein air painting in Evinston, FL and surrounding areas (Cross Creek, Orange Lake, Micanopy). This year, Gainesville artist, Linda Blondheim together with 30 of the best landscape painters, was painting in Evinston for an entire week!
Linda Blondheim lives in Gainesville, Florida and works primarily in oils, acrylics and gouache. Linda is a listed artist with Art Price, Ask Art The American Artist Bluebook, and Marquis Who’s Who in American Art. She has a museum history in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia and is gallery represented in Florida, Virginia, and Alabama.
Lindas’s work is often described as painterly or representational painting. Sometimes she is referred to as a representational expressionist or American Impressionist. She enjoys plein air painting Fall through Spring during the mild Florida climate, and enjoys traveling throughout the South to capture the beauty found in each state. Some of Linda’s work is done en plein air, but she also enjoys working from plein air studies and photographs to complete larger works in the studio. Her paintings are found in private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
Linda earned a BFA from the University of Tampa, studied post Bac at University of South Florida and has been painting for 30 years. She is founding member of Plein Air Florida, member of, Plein Air Georgia, Alabama Plein Air Artists and Fresh Air.
The artists always paint outside “en plein air,” meaning “in the open air.” Most Plein Air painters are nature lovers, using the great outdoors as their primary studio, trying to capture our rapidly vanishing landscape to preserve it for future generations. They learn to adapt quickly tochanges in light and weather, capturing shadows before the sun inevitably shifts, literally trying to harness the natural light and colors of a specific moment in nature, and transfer it directly onto the canvas. This style of painting allows the public to interact with the artists and offers a great opportunity to purchase an original work of art from a well known artist at a very reasonable price.
The Patron’s Gala was hosted on Friday, April 15th at 6:30 pm at the old Packing House next to the Wood & Swink Post Office. It was an old fashioned BBQ with entertainment, fantastic original paintings, and catered food by Pearl Country Store. For more information about this event, please visit www.evinstonpaintout.org
The Wood & Swink Preservation Society hosts this event each year and a large portion of the proceeds from art sales is donated for the preservation and restoration of Florida’s oldest working post office, the Wood & Swink Country Store & Post Office.
