The Hoedowns at Fair Oaks
The fading days of summer, with their cooler evenings, are ideal for outdoor entertaining, and a hoedown is a wonderful way to mark the transition to fall. Fair Oaks farm in Evinston is the setting for an old-fashioned, all-American hoedown. The mood is always set with great food, fun games, big bonfire, hay rides, hours of dancing, hooting, and hollering.
After the tasty dinner, musicians and the caller will cue you through a sequence of steps to the beat of music. Watch for straw bales; they define the dance area. Don’t worry, lanterns will light the way after sundown.
During a break from dancing grab a cup of hot chocolate. You can’t have a bonfire without s’mores. So continue roasting/spinning your marshmallow until desired color! If you have no patience at all, go ahead and stick it in the flame and you can burn it for a crunch outside, and melted inside. You are ready to eat! Enjoy each bite!
